Best Foot Forward is a community initiative devised and organised by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton.

Its unique fundraising concept took three years to develop and, since 2013, has raised almost £120,000 for the benefit of needy causes in and around our city.  A special feature of the event is that it is also used by other groups to raise and retain funds for their own use.

The essential driver in making the event possible is the support of some 40 Patrons – community minded companies and organisations which donate the funds necessary to make it happen.

One of the first, and most significant, Patrons to pledge support for Best Foot Forward was The James Beattie Charitable Trust and their importance to the event is readily, and gratefully, acknowledged.

1st Bilston Scout Group

The James Beattie Charitable Trust has been very kind and has helped us with many projects. The 1st Bilston Scouts is the oldest scout group in the World, and is based in Prouds Lane Bilston.

The group originally met in a pig sty on the former Laburnums site moving, next door to Prouds lane Playing Fields some time later. Then it moved into a 1914-18 War Hut from Cannock Chase and finally moving into a brick building in 1970. The building has been extended twice.

We have recently purchased the land where our building is and the latest donation will help for fencing on site so we are self contained and secure.

We are trying to raise further funds to provide secure car parking and we are very grateful to the Trust for its support.

Criminon U.K.

Criminon UK has been providing distance-learning courses to offenders and ex-offenders for over 15 years and support over 1300 offenders across 60% of the prisons in England and Wales. The funding from The James Beattie Charitable Trust will enable us to help more offenders in Wolverhampton to better their lives:

“Since completing the course with Criminon I have become more confident about my own abilities. I have taken on tasks that I would not have even considered in the past. I have applied for a new job and I have taken on single-handedly the task of running the guitar learner group. I have also noticed that my attitude towards others has changed. I now consider the feelings of others before acting, far more than I did in the past. I feel happier with whom I am and others have begun to give me greater respect.”
